I had this beer with lunch at Joey Tomatoes out of the tap. When I asked the waitress what the beer was like she said it was dark like a Guiness. Other than that she had no idea because she isn’t a beer drinker… Helpful right? Well, I decided to give it a shot anyways. Turns out, it is nothing like a Guiness. I must say I was disappointed with the waitress and the bartenders knowledge on the beer… They both had to go and ask my question to someone else. Shouldn’t they know the brewery that makes the beer? Maybe I am asking for too much…

In appearance I would say that this beer is a dark amber ale, almost like a darker Richards Red. There was an obvious reddish hue when held up to the light. In the thinner regions it looked almost honey gold or a nut-brown. It had a frothy white head that dissipated quickly. The aroma has a mild sweetness to it which could be honey or caramel with subtle undertones of an earthy nuttiness. Taste wise I quite enjoyed it. A mild to medium sweetness of caramel with a slight earthy, nutty undertone. A slight bitterness just at the end wasn’t quite expected but was pleasant. I could almost detect something fruity in the beer… Couldn’t quite put my finger on it but Elissa thought it might be apricots. I would recommend this beer to people looking at expanding their taste buds but aren’t used to darker beer.
